Progress Package arrives.......

In every mail box across the Singapore, lucky Singaporeans receive a gift from their caring govt - the Progress Package. The cash will come in on 1 May 2006. The progress package goes out to every single person of voting age, whether you are a millionaire or pauper. Coincidentally, I heard the elections will also be in May 2006.

Some cynics pointed out that the govt during the NKF saga said it is unable to help kidney patients because it has limited funds, yet it is able to give out hundreds of millions in cash handouts just before the elections. To these cynics, I would like to tell them that this govt cares about everyone above 21 years of age not just kidney patients.

For myself I'm going to put the money to good use - I plan to use the package to get an high end MP3 player or one of those fancy digital cameras. I guess election day will be a great day to shop because Courts, Harvey Norman, Best Denki will have big "Progress" discount sales in case Singaporeans don't know what to do with their money. Singaporeans really have power ....buying power!

Ha ha.. So let me get this straight. Singapore is effectively a one-party state, and yet the government still feels BUYING votes is necessary for victory in an election they CANNOT LOSE? Wow..

They must be very very scared of their people.

to the happy dude above,

compared to the gst you've paid over the years, plus all the nonsense taxations your parents paid, $700 is just a tiny fraction of the peanut that should have belonged to you, but extorted away by the gahmen.

I remember we got something like that in Canada during one of our federal elections. They said it was a 'gas (petrol) rebate' due to the high cost of gas. $400 in our pockets. Cause a problem cause even the prison inmates got the rebate and that was quite a lot of money going to prisoners.

Do Singaporean prisoners get the Progress Package? oh, wait, there can't be that many criminals over there since Singapore is the safest place to live and you either fine, beat or kill your criminals, right?

I think if I were Singaporean, I would demand an election every month. Then I could retire already and enjoy life. And if they dare to stop giving me any money, I would just dare to vote for the opposition, yeah!

I'd love to buy Temasek shares too. Can someone tell me how? Currently the only way I can see is... paying more tax.

If the salaries of ministers are charted, say like the STI (straits times index), I'd buy it too. What other way to share in the growth and progress? Sure make money...

Oh.. I love Singapore, I love PAP... If only there would be more opposition then they would have bigger PROGRESS Package.

MORE OPPOSITION = MORE $$$ and BIGGER PROGRESS PACKAGE I love it.
