Singapore Idol Fan Lucky Tan wants Ken Lim SUSPENDED!!!

As a Singapore Idol fan, I demand that judge Ken Lim be suspended from Singapore Idol Contest!!

In the lastest episode of the Singapore Idol Contest, Ken Lim poured sarcasm on the performance of many of the contestants, bringing alot of negativity to this otherwise happy show. All the other judges are always full of praise and encouragement...... Ken Lim should behave like all the other judges and contribute positively to this joyous show.

Ken Lim's comments on the contestants distort what I perceive as the truth. I personally feel that all the performancers are excellent . His comments are calculated to encourage cynicism and despondency, which can only make things worse, not better, for those young budding talents he professes to nurture.

Ken Lim is entitled to his views. But opinions which are broadcast widely on national TV to such a wide audience should meet higher standards. Instead of a diatribe Ken Lim should offer constructive criticism and alternatives.

It is not the role of judges in Singapore Idol to champion particular contestants or campaign for or against the contestants. If a judge presents himself as a neutral commenter, while exploiting his access to the mass media to undermine a contestant's standing with the voting audience, then he is no longer a constructive critic, but a partisan player in the contest.

I strongly recommend the suspension of Ken Lim so that we only have those wonderful positive comments from the other judges.

Haha! Very relevant indeed.

Agree. Though ken Lim's comments are frank, they are politically incorrect.

Can someone tell me if this post has something to do with Mr. Brown?....there seem to be some kind of connection to the Mr. Brown suspension incident...hidden somewhere.

Damn... my happy Singaporean mind senses something, but couldn't quite grasp it. I must pay more attention to the Straits Times and memorize it as much as possible.

We should use STOMP to host the idol show instead. Alternatively, use our ST commentators like Chua to be judges

Hey Lucky! You are really slow when it comes to the news. The Straits Times had just published a small column on 13 July, pg 22 (top left hand corner)titled, "Singaporeans the least happy people in Asia". I quote from the article, "OF ALL the countries in the ASEAN region, Vietnam has the most to smile about and Singapore the least, according to a list of the happiest countries on the planet." Singapore fared the worst of all the ASEAN and Asian nations ranked, coming in at 131st.

Quite unlike the ST to report on something like this eh, which is no negative. I feel so unhappy after reading it.

Johnathan,

These other people THINK they are happy because they NEVER had the benefit of a PAP govt, so they don't know what they are missing....

I agree. These people are quite pathetic actually. They think they are happy but in reality they are not.

How could they be happy when they don't have a government like ours to guide us on how to feel happy?

We have the right method of being happy. We compare ourselves to other less fortunate souls to be happy. We tell ourselves we are world-class to feel happy.

The government also tells us that humour and sarcasm do not make us feel happy. Only smiling to angmohs is the right way to feel happy.

Most of all, our wonderful government created MSM to make us feel happy.

Our happiness is world-class. Theirs is only a delusion.

I am unhappy that ST actually print this sort of unhappy news. Don't they know it will undermine the Government's national strategy of feel good, feel happy till you die?!

H Lucky Tan. I read a post that you wrote earlier about elderly working in McDonald's. I'm a freelancer and doing a story about this (well about Singaporean attitudes towards the elderly). Can you contact me? (I don't see anywhere on your blog to contact you.) borninthebluegrass@gmail.com

p.s. when i googled "singapore elderly mcdonalds" your blog entry is the first item to come up on the page.

I think the rest of the judges should be suspended and let ken do all the talking. He is the only one who has an ear and an eye for talent. The rest are just bablling. Ken Lim reflects the actual feeling of most viewers. None of the contestants are Idol worthy. Either the judges were so desperate to put in anyone just to have a show, coz if they really looked for talent, this show would never really air... Or the govt should let the schools have more dancing and singing in school, coz frankly, nobody's entertaining here.

Ken Lim is doing all of them a favour. Better for the 'singers' to know the truth than to live under the deception that there are good because their fans are tone deaf.

By the way, are you tone deaf too?
