In any other country, Chee Soon Juan would be 'just another activist' nobody would be bothered with him given the issues he is fighting for, transparency, citizen rights and democracy are actually non-issues in many countries. However, in Singapore has a unique system where certain things are traded away for the goodie bag we get before elections .....Chee Soon Juan's actions are downright disgusting - he is trying to remind us about what we lost. All of us have actually learned to 'move on' without harping on those things - there is no issue that a good buffet and new LCD TV cannot soothe.
As for empowerment, there is only one power that matters to most Singaporeans - buying power......their own buying power that is. Who cares if there old folks have to dig the rubbish bin for alum cans on our way to the shopping center, we can just walk faster and imagery will disappear from the corner of our eye. Why bother with rising medical bills if you're not sick. Why bother with freedom of speech if you what you say changes nothing anyway. What is important is when you look into your pocket, there is something left for the new MP3 player on sale....even if there isn't, the MAS has expanded personal credit so our kind banks can lend you some when your pocket is empty.
Please don't attend this "Empowerment March". There are many more important things to do on Saturday. I heard that Best Denki is having yet another Mega-Sale .....its airconditioned, there are prizes to be given out and lunch at the buffet restaurant will be so good....as long as your stomach is full, your bloodflow will be directed downwards away from your brain so you'll not think much about the issues........

If anyone insists to go to Hong Lim speaker corner, go to the famous curry chicken in the hawker centre. The next Alernative Priority after air-con, SALES, shopping.
Many of my friends also feel that the Chees are public nuisance.
Nowadays the China brandnames' eletronic products are of quite a decent standard. I bought a 42 inch TV that's about half the price of a Sony TV.
Yah! Let's all say bye bye the Chees! Shoo!
LOL, diary,
looks like your sarcasm have flown completely over the heads of some of your readers from the comments above....

Read the above article. It's on the front page of MSN today. Looks like all our good will and million smiles campaign is going to waste. These foreigners seemed quite piss with the fact that we denied entry to the 27 "blacklisted" activists.
100+ to 200 pple turnout there!
update@5.55pm 16/9/06:
i was @ there just now @ the rally. the poor chees were surrounded by nearly 30-40 police around them, forcing them not to move from their place at all.
do we really need so many police to surround 2-4 pple? good gracious.
Many Sinkies do not understand sarcasm when they see one. You must write something like "All you stupid Singaporans only like to eat like pigs, brain all empty."
What Dr Chee is fighting for, the don't a clue.
more police than protesters. lsounds liike a police stste. aiyah singaporeans also don't bother to turn up pathetic. if i were chee, i'll spend my time watching dvd.
There are certain kind of people who find cheese smell and taste are as strange and unappettising as processed culture durians. A healthier meal would have milk and honey promised in the diet.
I wonder why does Chee bother so much when Singaporeans either cannot be bothered or are too afraid to be bothered.
In Hong Kong, CSJ would be a hero. People will appreciate what he does as he stands up for repression.
In Singapore, the people are so repressed for 40 years, they look at Chee and don't understand what he is doing.
This country is becoming a pathetic hotel. Many of my friends plan to leave the first chance they get. Who wants to be a slave in his own country.....
who is chee? is he some kind of street performer??? aka david blaine??
