As a Citizen, I have a right to DEMAND..!

"While I may only be a 2nd lieutenant, I am a citizen of this country. And as a citizen I have the right to demand high standards from the leaders of the SAF. While it is true that high standards are hard to come by and even harder to enforce, for such events to come to light and yet nothing be done about it is to say the very least, unacceptable and disappointing. "
- Li Hongyi (son of PM Lee)
,
"Yes, anyone CAN DEMAND but whether your demand is
met really depends on who you are....:
-Lucky Tan
.
As an ordinary worker and citizen of this country, I have the right to demand a more equitable economic system one that distributes wealth fairly to everyone. I want my leaders to go beyond the simplistic approach of just focussing on GDP growth and maximise the gains for ordinary citizens. A worker who has a full time job should make enough for basic necessities and not have to accumulate arrears with our state own enterprises (GLCs) for utilities, rental and healthcare. Every tradeoff has to benefit ordinary citizens, not govt-linked-entities, corporations and a handful of elites.
.
As a citizen of this country, I have the right to choose the best person to represent me and my interests in parliament. I do not want to be held hostage by threats of living in a degraded environment if I do so. The old and sick should not be forced to walk the stairs because they voted for someone of their choice and not someone selected for them. I want to be able to listen to all the competing views so that I can make an objective assessment when I exercise my right to vote as a citizen.
.
As a citizen of this country, I demand the right to all information held by my govt as long as it does not compromise national security. Such information will allow me to have input into government decisions that affect me. It also enhances increase the openness and transparency of government.
.
I'm a citizen of Singapore, I live in a nation led by extraordinary leaders whose integrity, ability and commitment to its citizens can make leadership in many 1st world nations look mediocre. That is why they truly deserve the highest renumeration in the world. I'm sure a few basic demands is not beyond them. Let us have transparency so we can see how truly extraordinary they are and clear all our doubts. Let us have fair elections, they should have no problems winning since they work wholeheartedly for the interests of all Singaporeans...they have nothing to worry about.

i dunno what to say of his statement...

should we call it as arrogance? because my father is DA MAN, i can do this.

or should we call it as guts - someone whose ready to take punishment to bring the truth to the fore? an act that all singaporeans, even if they're small potatoes, should do when they see injustice being done?

the kid has the making of a politician - full of chest thumping posturing and self-righteous rhetoric - when really it boils down to his personal unhappiness with a superior. And for that he flamed the entire SAF officer corp, totally no sense of proportion. I believe the bootlicking press will start to portray him as some kind of hero. The wayang has begun.

give the kid a break...

give him one nice defaulter's parade...

"double up the parade square.....sir!"

does anyone know which arm of the army he's serving? is he an artillery man like his dad?

the kid doesn't need a break, what he needs is a good dose of punishment, strip his rank, to make him wake up his idea and appreciate the need to maintain regimental spirit instead of destroying it.

signal unit i was told

This could be just a new episole of making a new PM. What charge on LHY? Never mentioned? The superiors of the AWOL officer get only warning letters. It is too light a penalty for mis-manage and mis-lead their staff. Most importantly, waste of tax payers' money is the main issue for compromising leadership.

What SAF? Practically, most if not all government linked organizations are having this same problem - compromising on the quality of leadership and inferior leader has to victimize good staff in order to stay in power. Surprisingly, the top level always ignores tis problem. One of the reasons could be that they are also a compromised leader.

What proper channel of complaint? In most organizations, if you complain, there is a whole chain of command or managment does all it can to stop your complaint and to cover up the fault. Those compromised leaders not only victimize the voice but also get promotion and performance incentive. This is the real problem today because of lack of transparency in managment and compromised leadership. And, it does not happen only to SAF.

We are in serious trouble time instead of golden period as LKY said.

Yo Lucky,

Who the mother son are you to make such righteous demands....

Anon 5.49 said "And it does not happen only to SAF". I agree. The stinking bubbles will only surface when you stir the shit.

I must be stupid said...

I wonder if his scholarship will be stripped. If only Sg got william hill. hehe

i didnt know much about him till it blew over. they say any publicity is better than no publicity. i say any controversy is better than no controversy ..lol.
a different start. maybe even a good start. who knows, a different route to the lee's throne?...haha.

Wonder who the AWOL "victim" was? Should be one of the elites as all white horses are gathered together to single out for NO preferential treatment.

I'm curious as the victim was not reprimanded initially by the superior even with the super elite LHY early complaints.

This is simply a case of political undercurrents erupting out from the underground. Look: LHL maybe holding financial powers (Finance Minister), BUT whose having the ARMIES in hand? It's not him, but TCH.

So now would LHL be happy about it? Prob not. He'll be thinking: bloody h@ll, I work so damn hard, raise Sg to a level not matched by all my predecessors, like IR, property boom, and everything, but I'm still not given the absolute power of Army!!

So now there's a chance: my son just see someone (prob a white horse also as all of them are gathered together for minimal harm) play punk and beat the system, but nothing was done. Not a serious offence as so many regulars have done that (report late, leave early), and are still doing that. So if I know about it, I sure enCOURAGE him to shoot all the way up one. Let the first man kenna some youthful fires from my son also not bad! Somemore can quote about Cpl so-&-so kenna punished BUT not that LTA...our newspapers sure say my son's a very righteous and just young man! Powderful!

This will certainly burn SAF's no.1 man a little, as well as pave way for my son to be the next successor! Killing two birds with one stone! Smart political move!

I recall a few leaders coming to the defence of the peanut man..but when the shit hit the fan, noone is tahen to task..if we have accountable leadership like in other democratic countries, a few incompetent head would have rolled. But here there get a 40% pay raise...talk about leadership

If this man has self-righteous then he should be writing an e-mail to his dear mummy as a citizen to demand explanantion on the shit corp deal.

Anonymous said...

sorry, i had to do it...but it's "remuneration" not "renumeration".

Have you guys ever considered that it's precisely because the chain of command doesn't work, that little Lee has to resort to such a tactic?

Anonymous said...

Haha the chain of command never works. However what works is when you are the son of so-and-so. So why c.c. the email to the whole wide world even to NCOs and those unrelated to the issue unless he is seeking attention or has a hidden agenda? The kid is very petty and no saint for sure.

"Your grandfather's army ah?!"

This brat has no sense of proportion to spam everyone in the system over this issue.

He seems self-righteous and vindictive (now where did he get that from?) to ruin someone's career - no doubt the errant officer would have already been warned that the PM's son no less has an axe to grind with him.

How about applying that same hunger for accountability a little closer to home? Who's responsible for the taxpayers' money lost as a result of the Shin Corp deal?

Despite some people claiming he is a self-righteous and self interested prick, as a (far less well-connected) conscript SAF officer, I'm proud 2LT Li did what he did. There's nothing wrong with using your power and position to do the right thing. I'm not a big fan of his father but people shouldn't hold that against him.

KNNH, LTA X to say his side of his story. Then we may know why LHY wanted so badly to take his complain all the way to the Minister.
