What the Singapore Flag means to the next generation....

As National Day approaches, The New Paper has been asking readers to interpret the flag and explain what it means to them.

Today it features the interpretation of a Singaporean student, the product of our outstanding education system.
The student's understanding of the ideals represented by the 5 stars on our flag impresses me tremendously.

Democracy:-

Thank goodness, we can be sure this student won't grow up to be an activist like the Chees and get bankrupted, arrested and jailed. Our education system is working well to preserve the wonderful system we have today....

Justice:-

You can always tell if a system is just by the way celebrities are treated. Paris Hilton also got jailed so I guess the American justice system is almost as good as ours....but they don't seem to be able to cane criminals as well as us.

I believe our students are our future, the leadership of tomorrow and the embodiment of our hope and dreams. As long as they have a true purpose in life guided by the ideals symbolised by the stars on our flag, Singapore can look forward to a bright future.

The latest issue of Time said it best of the rising dragon generation. What democracy and ideals? The self centered consumerist life is the way to go. Given a choice between saving their ipods and preventing another death on the mrt track, the ipods will hang best on their necks.

They have learnt well indeed. They deserve that distinctive mark on their heads and hands. Their teacher ought to be greatly commended.lol.

But question still remains: Would you still fly the flag at your home?

After 42 years of nation building, Singapore looks more like a hotel than a nation to me.

Singaporeans check out if opportunity comes while FT check in to get that pot of gold.

However, all will rush to check out in term of real crisis.

Leave when you can, go to a real nation when you get a chance. This is just Singapore Inc...all it cares about is MONEY....

i think the sg flag is not drawn to the correct proportion.

the star denoting "progress" shld be the biggest, and the star for "democracy" a black hole.

what sg? i'm teaching my sons that they are citizens of the world for a better sense of self-worth.

The Flag is a piece of banner; a cloth to be exact, the Feelings are in the Heart. Do not read too much into the Flag
