National Manhunt : Where is Mas Selamat?

"The face that launched 5.5 million cellphone alerts" - Sunday Times

After the 5.5 million MMS, he is now EVERWHERE. On the bus I was taking, his face was pasted on the exit door staring right at me. Scary isn't it?

Terrorist Mas Selamat was detained under the ISA (Internal Security Act) without trial for our safety. Coincidentally, "Selamat" means "safety" in Malay. Under the ISA, Selamat was held in Whitley Road Detention Centre the same detention center that held those highly dangerous political detainees e.g. the Marxist Conspirators, Said Zahari fortunately none of these political detainees escaped to endanger our beloved govt. If we had sent him for trial, he would have been held in Changi Prison where the toilets have no windows.

Although our terrorists are almost as despicable, ruthless and dangerous as our political detainees, I feel that they still deserve to be put on trial so that they can go to a proper jail with barb wire, multiple high walls and armed guards on watch towers who will be able to spot a limping man. We should reserve the ISA only for the worst elements of our society, the political deviants who threaten our society with confusion.

The big question now on everyone's mind is "Where is Mas Selamat?"...He was in all our nightmares yesterday night but where is he physically?

Here's my take on his whereabouts:

1. It was reported that he was seen climbing up a nearby hill. I figured that if he had this all planned, he would have someone meet him with an escape vehicle by the road. The reason why he took the trouble to climb the forested hill is there are many potential hideouts there.

2. The Sunday Times reported that his family received no help when he was detained. His children can't afford the fees to go to religious school and stayed at home. Apparently, he doesn't have much support which reinforce the theory that the escape is a lone spontaneous act.

I believe he is hiding somewhere close to the detention center maybe in the forest or some warehouse. He probably drinking water from public toilets and picking up leftover food or wild fruits to survive. .....To find him, they need to monitor public toilets in the area and places where he can find food.

If this is not a lone act but a well coordinated jail break, we have alot to worry about. If they can plan something like this, they can plan something even more insidious. I hope the catch him fast, hiding alone in a cave or under a bridge.

UPDATE:

I have an important message for those who blame our esteemed Minister Wong Kan Seng for this incident. I put the blame squarely on the members of the Opposition. Here's why:

WKS as minister cannot possibly know the detention center that well - you expect minister to inspect every toilet there? You expect the minister to train every guard? He has already apologised and taken responsibility. However, the members of the Opposition are the ones I blame for this mess.

A number Opposition members have been detained under the ISA and know this detention center inside out. They probably are familiar with the toilet used by Mas Selamat and the security flaws in the detention center - the redoctrination that purges them of harmful thoughts can temporarily increase the urge to escape. Knowing that the govt was detaining terrorist there, why didn't they point out the possible ways of escape to the govt? ...I don't think the Opposition has any valid reasons for denying responsibility for the escape, many have been detained there over the years and they spend more time there than almost anyone else.

My Lord, My God , your will be done. Question : Is Mas as guilty as the Catholic terrorists? More or less? As guilty as Francis Seow? Were there trials held before our Mr Seow had to run off to USA? Tang Liang Hong to Australia? Is this retribution of some sort? I only heard evidences from the Straits Times.

At this time of writing there are already 99 comments in another blog on this subject.

If it is a political tactic to distract people from the crescendo of criticism over various other issues - CPF LIFE, budget surplus coupled with high inflation, $billion loss in Citibank - it sure is working.

Mas Selamat may be still be in detention but moved to a more secretive place for the time being ... until he is "caught" again.

Speculative yes but history shows that PAP has all along been very adept in this kind of game.

I recommend the book "Lee Kuan Yew's Singapore" by TJS George for a historical overview of PAP's many dirty tricks to fool the people and further strengthen its power.

How can one not trust in PAP's cleverness?

anon,

At the rate the US economy is sinking, Mas Selemat isn't going to make much of distraction.

As for CPF Life, Citibank, and inflation, they will still be around long after Selemat's body is found floating in the ocean as he drown swimming trying to swim to Indonesia.

But no need long mah. Only 1 or 2 month of sensationalism is enough to divert people from the other issues. People has short memory and PAP knows it.

Lucky You are late, but One good point is raised.
But really leh if he is surviving using said means:-
Water from public Toilet.
Won't people saw him already?
Toilet(prison) breaks to toilets water for survival.
Wow there are lots of toilet involved :P
I still think that a performance pay cut is in order :)

I agree TOTALLY with Lucky Tan, Its ALL the opps fault.

Should Chee Soon Chuan & gang behalf more properly, we would have enough manpower to properly guard this Terrorist fellar.

But i guess, the police have to take some responsibility too.. if they have surrounded this terroriest fellar like they have surrounded CSC and his gang when they are outside hoping to say something at speakers corner or starting to walk to places, how could this T.Fellar had excape??

So obviously, its CSC's fault. :|

I just heard on the news that they are saying that he has had NO help whatsoever in his escape and that he is 'alone, hungry and scared' so people should be wary of clothes or food going missing because it could be him.

My question that I scratch my head over is which exactly is worse? Knowing that there might have been accomplices inside the detention centre that helped him escape; OR that he is working on his own and the Singaporean detention centre is sooo incompetant that they let a man limp away? Even better that the police are so incompetant that with their forces they can not find the man. Not like Singapore is the 2nd largest country in the world.

On the bright side, this must show how safe Singapore is. The police have had so little practice in actually looking for someone or stopping crime that when something does happen, they are ineffectual.

he is already dead lah, probably heart attack, sudden death. So the police panicked and when the family came the easiest excuse to buy time was to say he went to the toilet. The when they couldnt wait any longer came the drama - he escaped. He might be found one fine day with his body riddled in bullets. You think?

I guess that is where the problem lies. With their million dollar salary and such a distinguished list of Guests as Whitley, I cannot fathom Mr Wong Kan Seng. Is his ministry really that inept, or are they just pulling a fast one on all of us, that they are on top of things and Mas will be miraculously captured after the parliament debate??

How about having this:

"National Moneyhunt : Where is our CPF Money?"

instead of finding a poor harmless person?

if mas selmamt was killed during interrogation or something...most likely they could pass it off as he had an heart attack, nobody would take notice....first he is JI member...secondly he is man reaching 50...thirdly we really don't give a hoot....I think something beyound natural occurance....this ISD are guarded by Gurkas...who are renouned for their valour and discipline...I think he had been practicing black arts....in indonesia and malaysia there is govt department which deal with it...people who are specifically for dealing with super-natural issuse...when the 8 year old girl was kidnnappedn...bomoh from thier govt branch were called in....indonesians able to capture, due to the fact they themself practice such arts..there is martial art called penchak silar...in sg it is just a martial art,in indonesia in the it is involvement of the super-natural..they are even demonstrations open to public....where men buried up their heads...surronded by bombs...after explosion,he will be normal...i will just cut it short...once a balinese man told me,at certain time of the year, when certain planets aligned to each other...if u had been doing some chanting for certain period of time...u will attain some super-natural power....those who are surronding wil be in a zombie state for around 40 minutes...would not be able to recall what happend...i doubt that, even if he is helped from internally..he would be able different layers of security in ease..i understand 3 layers of secuirty,,,he is gone...vanished in the thin air....

My brother thought the picture on his handphone was the latest Singapore Idol.

The gahmen can't decide what is more malu - letting a limp man escape from their noses with help from kaki or letting one old, hungry and scared man cabot from toilet on the spur of the moment.

Maybe he wanted to try out some mee siam without hum.

But hor, spending more than 3 days to look for an old man in our tiny island really damn malu.

Hehe. Actually not the first time Wong Kan Seng blunders so badly.

Years back his ministry was hacking into people's computers via the Internet and was caught red-handed by a user who happen to have a firewall and traced it to his ministry.

After that, Wong Kan Seng decided that his game was over and pretended that the whole case was just a mistake by his underlings.

He said his ministry should'nt be doing that. Yeah but who's in charge?

Can we handle the brutal truth?

I think this 'escape' is planned and conspired at a very high level of secrecy. Can you see the coolness of the senior PAP members?

I am very certain that this guy is still behind bars in some remote, ulu area where he is being grilled to confess details.

Of course this shouldn't be done by any developed nations, should it? But then, Singapore is a very special developed nation.

Another theory I have is they have let him go to trace his roots/his members. I mean this guy will be mentally tortured, or brainwashed so much that he will need to seek out his 'friends' to find his own identity back.

If the powers to be had brainwashed a 4.8 million people population that they are the only true party that will be best for the nation, who is this guy who can go against the powers to be?

LOL. I'd think there will be a report of finding his body in some swampy waters where he 'tried' to swim across.

*shrug* No sympathy from me either way.

Did I see 'Selamat' in MacRitchie ? Before confirming, I like to ask what is the possibility of Selamat disguise himself as a short skinny Monkey limping its way in the forest, jumping from tree to tree shouting its monkey language as though it is saying 'Catch Me If You Can' ?

Anonymous said...

We should feel damn proud of Singapore instead !

Look we have a more famous idol larger than Edison Chen. Hong Kong think that Edison will help bring HK to world map. They are dead wrong. See, our million dollars ministers have done a great job of putting Selamat onto every phone in Singapore and into every piece of newsaper around the world.

More over, Edison ,with your screwing conquest. You can't beat our limping talent and he's even has a handsome face and sexy body as you.

kaffein,

The finding his own identity back sounds so much like Jason Bourne in the Bourne Trilogy.

Haha.

Agree with Lucky Tan. It is the opposition party's fault not our minister. Some members of the opp party should have attempted to break out of the detention centre to see how good is the security. Obviously, the opp party fail to do that and now the terrorist has no difficulty limping his way out of the compound. Now we hold opp party fully responsible for not been proactive and testing our stronghold earnestly. We demand the opp party to resign and apologise to the public. Nothing less will appease the public.

The terroist on the losse....sporeons are suddenly find their boring predicatable life's suddenly turned into a adventure....all those policemen patrolling with their semi-automatic...They have forgotten price-hike...and all other hikes...suddenly they have turn from ant-govt to pro-govt.....all of them wanna be a hero...might as well anounce....$10 million reward....i think many will take leave..to find him....i was at the coffee shop yesterday....a indian man was limping towards the coffeshop...two aunty was screaming "mas selamat mas selamat"...many people rushed out...after seeing him, they all went back...he walk toward;s....he took out his lower part of his left leg..it was an artifical leg..he shouted "see this whore...see this...I would shuff this in your asshole"...the aunty's were scared shit...he shouted 'u bastards..u wanna fight me,come i am not scared..suddenly all were quiet as a mouse....he shouted for ten minutes and bought a pack of cigratte and left....this incident,it was comical....in the long run,if mas selamat is still not captured....it will create racial tensions

Don't blame the opposition lah! It is not the opposition's job to help the Government lah! The PAP said that it is not their job to help the opposition to win elections, and in fact they are making it difficult for the opposition to contest by introducing GRCs. So it is also unfair to expect the opposition to help the PAP by pointing out the various ways of escape from the detention center, knowing that other opposition personnel may be held there in future and may attempt an escape. Tit for tat lah!

If we put WKS inside, think he got brains and balls to get out?

And I am reminded, on this day, of the sad story of Francis seow. As you all may remember, a long time ago, almost twenty years ago, this poor soul cried out for help time and time again, but no person answered his calls. Though many saw, no one so much as question why. They all just watched as francis was being arrested in broad daylight. They watched as ISD walked away. Now, we must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men

ya, i believe this escape has been plan.let us pray to God that this mat selamat and whoever with him will caught and judge them accordingly.why this people never realize and think, mat selamat and his man i hope u can read this!dont think that u cant win forever, remember your 'soul',with all this trouble that u did.do you think you can safe your soul when you die.have mercy to those people that still leaving, leaving for thier family and love one.think about your family.

This is most naive statement I have ever heard...too say we will catch him...and he will always lose....how do you know that sg govt will always win...has they got osama? till, now no....The reality is that he is on the loose...and he will be back with vengance..I wish he got caught too...but the reality is far from it...sg govt have good relations is indonseia and malaysia...that's a good thing...The reality is many elements within the govt and the people...they don't like sg...take for instance..indonesia a nation consist of thousands of islands...the central govt is having conflict with some of them....in this area, religious fervour run high....if he escaped to one of the islands....even the indonesian govt could do little...as their military forces are having constantly conflict with them...beside i doubt that indonesia is gonna the whole way...given the fact,we play host to number of indoneisan citizens who fled embezzling billions of dollars..till now,no resolution had been reached...it was indonesians who caught him...we lose him....the real problem is not mas selmat...

The massive traffic jams of up 15 hours at both sides of the Causeway is ridiculous, given the enormous economic loss.

But all these might mask an underlying objective of the PAP, which only PAP insiders could know. Mas Selamat's escape may just be a story concocted for that hidden purpose.

Let me explain.

Around 1990, while the MRT tracks were being built, thousands of illegal Thai workers toiled in underground tunneling works.

Then soon after that, the Singapore gov decided to deport them enmasse on the grounds of illegality. The Thai gov had to send ships to transport them home.

The then Thai PM Chatichai threatened to send warships instead but for the admonition of his military chiefs.

The real reason behind the PAP's move according to some insiders in PAP was that Thai PM Chatichai had a conflict with LKY during an Asean meeting.

LKY who had always been bossing around in such meetings felt offended enough to teach the Thai PM a lesson.

This is how things actually work in Singapore politics. One man doing all the talking and deciding, even if it means compromising sensitive bilateral relationship and vast economic interest.

MM Lee on mas selemat "I give him full marks for winning the confidence of his custodians – that he's completely docile, completely passive and he's going to remain in captivity. It is... stupid to believe we are infallible. We are not infallible. One mistake and we get a big explosive in your midst. So let's not take this lightly. I think it's a very severe lesson of complacency," said Mr Lee.

In most of govt or commercial buildings there atleast two levels of secuirty...and given the fact,it's highly secure facility,I am sure there would be atleast 3 levels of security...MM had said, mas selamat had won confidence of the "custodians",by merely acting as docile and passive (meaning acting submissive)..even so ,what he say's it's true...it answer's just one part of the question...not the entire one...as,it is possible, mas selamat must have establish some good relationship with the guard who was guarding him...it didn't answer, how he get pass through the other guards..and elite gurkas who are actually guarding the main gate...
