Thio Li-Ann's Mother's Day Tribute....

I don't know why but I just can't resist putting this picture from today's New Paper in my blog. It shows NMP Thio when she was four walking with her mom (also known as Feminist Mentor Thio) in 1971. Notice that NMP Thio had a plaster on her right knee.....

I'm not making any point here. It was such an interest article and that picture somehow captured my attention..so I posted it here.

There are 2 more other possible options when you hear someone talking to you:-

1. Having hallucination;
2. Marked by some powerful evil spirit

Hi Lucky

I love your blog and have been reading it before the last GE. I even took your advise last oct to postpone changing my car

But this post seems a little out of character, seems very personal, against someone very personal space.

I know that u have clarified and it's also your personal blog. It's just my expectation of your "professionalism" and I replace the local media with your blog

Hi Anon 2 (referrng to 2nd anonymous 2),

how exactly is the post offensive and personal?

I see Lucky has deleted the part about why Thio Li-Ann converted and also some comments on the picture. How are those comments offensive?? But seriously I've never really heard anyone who provided such an explanation for a supposedly spiritual encounter.

Quite pretty. Haha!

anon 7:52,

You're right and I'll take your advice. What I really wanted to put up was the photograph and I believe it was one chosen very carefully by NMP Thio for the article given the recent events.

I've always thought the very narrow debate surrounding Aware had resulted in a very negative perception of the elder Thio ...we forget people are more complex than that and there are aspects of their life ....today being mother's day and NMP Thio's fitting tribute to her mom who was an accomplisher of her time and also a loving mother to her tells us not to be so quick to judge people.

I can't help earlier to put up what NMP Thio said about her faith because it was another interest thing...I've taken it out as it may miscommunicate what I was trying to say in the first place.

Thanks.

Hi Defender, Lucky's post @ 8.05pm has clarified

Hi Lucky, thanks.

What's ypur take on the present stock market trend. Seem like the golden age has come again. Pls blog on this :-) thanks

LuckySingaporean said...

anon 8:30,

Golden age or golden age delusions? Just enjoy it while it lasts and nothing lasts forever. The market always attempts to rise after it hits its lows because investors as a group of optimists...the problem is when the economy does not catch up with expectations guess what happens?

The market will always rally ahead of an economic recovery...it also rallies when there is no recovery and turns back down. There was one 50% rally after the 1929 collapse just before the Great Depression started.

There were something like 4(?) rallies after 911 and the market makes new low after each of these - when the real rally came nobody believed it.

For such rallies which can be quite gigantic, ride it when they come but I always believe in having a mechanical trailing stop to start getting out when the market reverses. I'll write more about investing soon....about the markets..and various resources for people who want to research it.

During the AWARE saga, Thio Li-Ann was hiding in the closet all the while, not even making a sound. She's probably scared of smearing her political NMP portfolio. So much for integrity!

It's time to reflect quietly on the monkey business you have done, rather than trying to Thio-here-Thio-there doing damage control.

I think it's time for the junior Thio to check the elder Thio's state of mind by seeking professional help. I mean surely, objectively speaking, something is probably amiss when your mother thinks that her prayers saved Singapore from the tsunami?

Anonymous said...

Dear guys, it is just a photograph. So keep your wild imagination to yourself. Lucky can put anything up in his blog. so there.

LuckySingaporean said...

Everyone,

Really it is just a photgraph. Perhaps the only point is it may improve the negative impression of elder Thio as NMP Thio probably selected this photo very carefully.

You know on Discovery ( or is it history) channel they are flashing old personal photographs with some short interesting notes about them. I find this one interesting for the same reason I find those on Discovery interesting.

Put aside the gay and Aware saga. This is a photo graph of a mother and child in a park - the child has a band aid on her left knee. The mother destined to be the Dean of Law in NUS and the daughter a law professor and NMP in parliament.

You mean to say you never prayed in your life? If you did, why pray if you do not think it will be answered? Why do you see so many people pray? Ask all Muslims. Hindus, Buddhists and the other religions why they pray. I think you need to examine yourself too if you think everyone around you are bonkers.

Dear Lucky,

Your views usually rise above the skewed reporting by our main stream media. That's why I am a loyal reader of your blog because it offers more objective & accurate commentaries than I can get for the 80cents I waste everyday. However, in this case, it seems like you too have been propagandered by ST too.

Personally, in the recent Aware saga, ST was the biggest and baddest culprit in stirring up shit. It had nothing to do with them. The new exco (now former exco) have always been on a lose-lose trail with the media not on their side. Even in yesterday's Sunday Times... their choice not to further comment on the issue was again negatively reported! I know Church of Our Savior well becuz I was there for 10 years. The senior pastor has been quoted out of context. Anyway, it's probably too much to try and explain it on this blog.

Lucky, from your comments, it seems that this is a very innocent post without a point being made. However, just in case, I hope your views on the Aware issue are not wrongly coloured by the skewed reporting by our main-stream media. Thanks.

What has my praying or not got to do with anything? I am referring to the Senior Thio declaring that the reason why SARS hit Singapore was because of Singapore's abortion policies.

Also that Singapore would have been hit by the tsunami had she not prayed for the nation.

That is absolutely lunacy. Tsunami and SARS has nothing to do with praying.

If one were to view her profile on her firm's website, a part of it reads "Very much a grand dame of the corporate legal scene (her looks, as you can see, belie her experience..."Therefore this almost irrefutably begs the following thought: whoever wrote that profile of hers (herself not excluded from the possibility of being that such person) clearly holds the view that she looks way younger than what her amassed experience would cause one to have the presumption that she's in fact way past her prime in the aesthetical sense.

So she's still as "hot" as she was years ago I guess? :)

Kindly re-read your post and show where SARS was being referred to. Where was it mentioned in your post about SARS and prayers? Shooting in the dark?

Prayers are beliefs of most religions. Why do you want to put down other people's religion and beliefs? If someone prays daily to their God for the well-being of Singapore and Singaporeans and unfortunate disasters happens elsewhere, who can fault them for thinking their prayers has been answered? If people wants to burn papers and whatnots for their ancestors, who can say they are wrong, because excessive smoke harms the health of the very young and aged? No one has the right to call believers lunatics. Why would anybody make the effort to pray if they do not believe their prayers will be answered?

In a Christian Rally of some 10,000 attendies, all of whom are praying for Singapore's well-being amongst other things, would you say all of them should be examine?

your local doctor heals more sick people than your faith healer or one who is "gifted" - if you compare notes between the two with verifiable records, the doctors are light years ahead in healing and even raising the dead at times.

unlike the latter who boast of incredible feats every week, the former does no such boasting and has a long track record of happy and satisfied patients to show for it

that example is also true where helping and the poor and fighting for justice

the record(verifiable) speaks for itself. that's true religion.

What do you think of people who walk around, thinking they are "righteous" without doing a single thing to counter injustices or unrighteousness in society?

What do you think of people who sing, dance, jump, shake and shout..whose idea of tackling social ills and injustices is by talking to an imaginary friend?

I think there is no greater EVIL in the world than to perpetuate such ideology on the masses.

Wouldn't that explains the corruptions we see everywhere?

Anon 8:53,
>"Why do you see so many people pray? Ask all Muslims. Hindus, Buddhists and the other religions why they pray."

When the Buddhists and Taoists pray, they pray to the Gods/ Pu-Sa/ Buddhas to help save them from a natural disaster, be it tsunami or earthquake. They do NOT pray to the Gods, Pu-Sa, Buddhas to please don't inflict a tsunami/earthquakes on them!

Tha't's the diff - Gods, Pu-Sa, Buddhas do not inflict tsunami/earthquakes on others. This has to do with them being compassionate all-loving higher beings. And their followers therefore do not pray to them to spare Singapore.

Christians should defend their own unique religion - where their God can inflict disaster, and can spare people when their followers pray - using their own logic, without trying to "co-opt" Buddhism or Taoism. Likewise, please don't say: "the majority of Singaporeans, being Buddhist/Taoist, share the same conservative views as Christians regarding homosexual" or something to the effect (though u haev not said that yet). Your religion is unique, and not shared by eastern culture.

On your later comment, burning incense paper, is in my opinion, unacceptable. One has no right to practise one's religion while causing asthma and allergy reaction to others. The practitioners should confine themselves to some indoor place with chimney/furnace facilities!

"In a Christian Rally of some 10,000 attendies, all of whom are praying for Singapore's well-being amongst other things, would you say all of them should be examine?"

Yes!

Just as the 1,000...000 who used to think the earth is the centre of the universe - they all should have their head examined.

Likewise, the current 100,000,000 who think evolution has not occur, all should have their head examined.

Point? Don't use numbers to support your stand. In scientific discoveries, the enlightened are always the few. The ones who are wrong and stubbornly refuse to have their head examined - they are always in the majority.

"In a Christian Rally of some 10,000 attendies, all of whom are praying for Singapore's well-being amongst other things, would you say all of them should be examine?"

I am the anon above. I should elaborate to be clearer: they should have their head examined, not because they are praying for sg's well-being, but for believing that natural disaster such as earthquakes and tsunami are caused by an all-loving God and that they can "negotiate" with this God to have some mercy on the country.

Quite obviously you may think otherwise. But as an Atheist, I am entitled to feel this way. I am however, not entitled to ridicule the Christians face-to-face abt their beliefs. That would be too much tit-for-tat, copying the Christian practice of deliberately ridiculing other people's beliefs door to door. Tit for tat is no good. But I suppose, making an opinion on a blog's comment post is the furthest I would go in "retaliation" :)

Are we to "respect" lunancy just because a religious nut sprouts it? It has been widely quoted that Thio Su Mien catagorically said that her prayers saved Singapore from the tsunami. I guess we can fire the thousands of geologists. She also said that SARS was the result of Singapore's abortion policies. Just do a google search on what Thio Su Mien said. It is extraordinarily insane.

Don't give religion too much credit, expecially such extremist religious views held by the minority of Xtians. It is one thing to pray for the well-being of the nation and people in a general sense, quite another to think that you have prevented a natural disaster!

The plot thickens as more and more rumours and allegations against Siew Kum Hong are being published on the internet. To make things even more complicated, Singapore political party, SDP and its leader, Chee Soon Juan, has also be implicated. The allegations of being corrupted or ‘on-the-take’ are damaging as it could ruin a person’s political career forever. We could be seeing a defamation suit in the making if the allegations are found to be untrue. For the sake of justice, I would strongly urged the concerned parties to clarify their position on this so as to uphold their reputation and alsoto ensure that this would not be a concern issue for voters or a marring topic during the coming GE. 3 postings that I found to be damaging are made in these 2 websites.

Siew Kum Hong is just a Hired Gun

There is talk about Siew Kum Hong recently and let me add what I know about this NMP. Just recently, a Swedish politician, Johan Skarendal, was in town trying to finance certain political causes in Singapore. And yes, you guessed it! This Swede met up with Kum Hong, Stuart Koe, Leong Sze Hian, Peter Cuthbert Low and others, and promised to finance their gay and other rights projects in our little red dot.

This would not be a tale of guns for hire if Kum Hong and his posse had righteously rejected the thick wads of money stuffed in the saddlebags under their noses, cash that is so precious now when there is recession doom and gloom looming over our heads. Our NMP, champion of gay rights, defender of the marginalized, not only greedily accepted the offer, but asked for more as he said his rights projects in Singapore are legion.

Oh NMP, what have you done? Are you just a hired gun? Two posts in http://singaporedaily.net/2009/05/15/daily-sg-15-may-2009/#comments

What’s new. The Swedes are pals with SDP for some time with the Sweden-Singapore Initiative for Democracy http://www.singaporedemocrat.org/whoweare.html. But they are reaching out to the gays this time. Smart. Different angle/hole, same objective. I wonder how much was put on the table to buy “shares” in these activist groups.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One More Concerned Citizen Says: May 16th, 2009 at 2:41 pm This Swede guy apparently is linked to SDP as well? It is thus highly possible that SDP is funded by him well. This would explain how a bankrupted Dr. Chee can afford so many properties overseas.
