I still have a few (genuine, real) Sunkist oranges from Coldstorage and the stickers look like this:
Except for the words, the shape and colors are all the same. The SonKiss oranges are really not too bad but I wonder why they have to copy the sticker. I bought them because they were cheap...that was a good enough selling point for me.
If you walk around Sim Lim, you will see those iPhone and BlackBerry knockoffs. For $145, you can get a phone that takes dual sim card, wifi, touchscreen, java, analog TV, 2 cameras, FM radio, MP3 and MP4 playback. They are really not too bad for the price conscious. But I really wonder if they have to make them look like BlackBerries, iPhones and Nokias because the price is already so attractive. It is really embarassing to be carrying a fake. I rather be using a unknown brand phone that doesn't look like some other popular phone.

Cheaper better faster. =)
Want compete with Chinese being "cheaper"? Sure lose and die.
We should really compete on something else.
Many foreign talents find Singapore much better than their home countries. Or other countries. Never mind if these may not be the best talents.
We can get them and in this sense we are competitive in attracting talent. If not, how to get 4.9 million population within a short time?
Many people try to look rich - hence the imitation. & emergence of pawnshop ads on papers. A new phenomena. Living beyond their means to look rich to others.
People buy stuff with money they don't have to impress people they don't like. If unable they go for imitations.
Yes competing on cheap with China is suicide. Funny with the CBF slogan by LSS. Is like telling the japanese to attack S'pore by sea during WWII.
Tell me what else especially electrical appliances now are not made in China? Sigh....

Hey lucky, dun mean to act smart or be critical, but if we do not compete on cheaper, what do we compete on. Better?
Can our engineers beat the chinese ones? Are our table cleaning aunties faster than the young, fit chinese replacing them?
Tell me lucky, what can we do? If we stop immigration, it will solve the problem temporarily, but ultimately we must compete with the chinese on the international stage.

You're right.
Sg workers have now run out of options and have to to compete based on lower wages.
For that, we have to thank our great PAP leaders, THEIR masterful vision and excellent execution of THEIR grand strategies to make life better for all of their voters.
Just look at the sleeper-hold that local workers are now stranded in.
Still dare to vote PAP for more GOOD YEARS?
anon 18:32,
I think our leaders wasted too much time on the wrong strategies - export led growth and dependency on FDI. We did very little ourselves depending on FDI for growth contrast that with S. Korea which believed in developing homegrown businesses. The FDI can threaten to flee any time to cheaper locations.
Our domestic economy is small compared with other countries with the same population. We are always dependent on external demand.
Cheaper, better, faster is a race to the bottom. It will exacerbate our income gap, elevate poverty levels and reduce the quality of life further. The PAP is already living on its past achievements - very soon they will tell us "vote for us...if not for us, Singapore will still be a fishing village".
Lucky,I'll keep this short if really die die must use cheap handphone set at least check if the IMEI is not a duplicate one.
