City Harvest under CAD investigation....

According to media reports, Pastor Kong Hee and 16 others are now under investigation[Link].

Kong Hee and members of the CHC may or may not be guilty of the complaints of misuse of funds made to the COC. We will only know for sure after investigations are completed.

In the past few years, after the NKF scandal we continue to see problems in our charities and religious organisations. There was Youth Challenge[Link], Society for the Blind, St John's Home[Link] and Ren Ci. I think ordinary folks hardly recovered from the Ren Ci shock when the latest news about CHC investigations broke.

But the signs were there all along. If only the authorities bothered in the first place to look deeper. Then again many of these "culprits" have friends at high places so ..........

I'm surprised the authorities took so long, alarm bells have brrn ringing for a long time. At the same time, I think other religious instituitions are also overdue for some audit checks. Such abuses stems from our misguided trust in the morality of "management" and that includes our ruling party.

Whether they did right or wrong is another matter.

But in the first place, how did these organisations manage to get so many donations from so many donors and for such long time?

Some of these donors/worshippers are no ordinary Joes. They earn big income so the donation must be be quite big too.

So must learn their approach and strategy.

Especially for politicians it is the votes. That is how to get many votes at elections so as to form the gahmen. As gahmen, nobody can question you unless you are voted out.

CHC and the likes cannot be put in the same category as Ren Ci, NKF St John's home...

CHC operates more like cults. they work their victims EVERY WEEK. can you say that about the others?

every week and month after month and year after year and sometimes several days in a week, thousands of people are bombarded with indoctrination and pyschobabbles or mind control languages.

can you say that about those other cases?

can you say that these other organisation have a ready and growing COMMITTED AUDIENCE at their their disposal who would RECRUIT more and more people for them to suck off their bank accounts?

no right?

this makes CHC and this kind of organisation a unique beast.

as such, should be skinned differently

Nowadays those big charities or religious organization are functioning like a profit motivated companies, lame excuse given being the expenses and the operating cost are high and compare top management to commercial sector.

In the first place those top management position should be managed by philanthropists who can afford having lower pay with true heart of helping people, not profit generating organization.

I am skeptical about big 'non-profit' organizations ever since the NKF case.

Cheaty Harvest forgot to pay tithes to Lord (Harry). If they had contributed that $310m to PAP, rest assured this wouldn't have happened.

No dictatorial government in the world would welcome any groups not under their auspice to grow too powerful.

There must be a crackdown before Kong Hee grown too powerful that may one day challenge PAP.

While CH may not be entirely faultless, financial irregularities is definitely not the main point of this fiasco.

Relatives of PAP and PAP themselves are definitely 100x more corrupt.

How do you prove quan xi?They are all brothers in Christ or in crime, how do you implicate them for nepotism?

Meng Yi got 6 months of jail term for allowing an authorized loan of $50K. If CHC can not explain the $310M fund properly, my calculator suggests that the total prison terms should be 3,100 years!

No fear, with that kind of money, they can hire queen's counsel to fight their case. The garmen do not know who they are messing with. They have powerful international connections that will back them up. Who knows, they may even call down fire from heaven to smoke their captors.

while the husband is being benkang by the authorities, the wife in the other part of the world can't decide which sexy outfit to wear for her promotional tour.

This came about because our world has changed. Because we demand choice

Choice in worship, choice in toothpaste, choice in videos.

So, to meet demand for choice, an alternative is offered in satisfying our spiritual beliefs and methods of worship. The 'ra-ra' style appeals as oppose to 'old' fashioned practice of quiet worship.

The wallets open up and the business side prevails. There is nothing criminal about this.
It may not appeal to some but obviously 30000 others like it.

I will be concerned if my wife or kids start to give them first and not to our own family. Charity begins at home.

Alternatively Cheaty Harbis' businesses that siphoned millions in overpriced services can 'donate' a few million dollars to PAP and all will be forgiven. Suddenly charges will be dropped, scam pastors continue scamming his herd and horse face can continue singing and dressed like a slut in LA.

I thought CHC is actually doing what PAP has been doing all these years, ie. accumulating wealth at the expense of their worshippers (or peasants) as the case might be.

The end result is basically the same in both situations, ie. the ultimate access to use these funds as one pleases, whether it is for paying their own salaries or investment.

Is there any real difference as to who are the ultimate beneficiaries ?

If the main objective had really been for the public's good, then there is no necessity to exercise absolute control, isn't it ?

That CHC is a fraud is so clear and obvious. Just look at the way the congregations are conducted. It is more like a raunchy nightclub scene. So it is a form of entertainment and the 33,000 members paid for it. With so much $ they spend so little on charity. They spent more $ on salaries and even more on business ventures. They preach greed and commercialisation. The wife of the founding pastor behaved more like a prostitute that a wife of a pastor. Did Christ taught us that ? How come there are so many foolish people in Singapore ?

Kong Hee Fatt Chow is adulterer Jack Neo's good buddy. He was there when Jack Neo was waddling in shit.
Of course, not to forget BillyGoat George Yeo, who was rallying Singaporeans to support Jack Neo.
Kong Hee Fatt Chow answered to George Yeo's rally.
Kong Hee Fatt Chow, Jack Neo, George Yeo - all PAP men.

does that mean the 17 have been invited to tea with the ministers instead of what was reported?

Father Joachim , TT Durai , Ming Yi , all landed in at the same destiny.
what will the next happen ....? what is your comment.
Not against anyone of them I don't even know all this guy ,just learn it from news .
All the front 4 hero touch by COC and CAD end up at he same destiny .
It,s hard to figure out why not the next one ...if PAP stand 4 pay and pay
(but after you pay still can enjoy what you have pay for right ) then COC is comrade of criminal
CAD is come another detention

Before we jump to conclusion, let's see what the investigations show.

Even though I think Christians like to waste their time and money.. we should always remember Innocent until proven Guilty.

"not to worry. like ncc who kenna checked, also nothing happen."

like they say, the garmen check the people but who checks the garmen?
just becoz it is above board, is it above board? likewise, just cox the numbers don't tally, does it make it wrong?

but one thing is certain though, some people have gained considerabkel wealth from talking gock.

I think that's enough evidence already

Lucky Tan,
that's the problem with many religious/charity/non-profit organizations that end up growing too big or too fast with load of money contributed by their members.

When these organizations grow too big, suddenly the echelon and their members find it better to start a business with their organizations, as they find it is better to have a business with the org than to give outsiders to provide such service, and moreover they feel it is better that they profit from org rather than outsiders as they are part of the org. To them, having a business dealing with org at least give them some control compare to outsiders, as they argue. Moreover, they think that by giving business to the organization they serve, they will at least buy their own loyalty and as form of retention in organization.

now you see why the mega rich church is becoming superficial with ppl joining to build network of business relationship.

You see the same thing happen with our kangaroos.

Anonymous said...

true, many initially join out of curiosity but it helps when they find that there is business of opportunity dealing with ppl of these org who can give reasons of "moral" and "spiritual" ground regardless of whether what they doing is right or wrong.

33,000 paying 10% tike per month. Why would people earing millions give away so much unless they are getting ten-fold in return.

I am not surprised. Singaporeans are mostly an unthinking lot and easy to manipulate. Which is why religion can flourish so easily in Singapore. We have 66% of the populace that readily vote for a government that screws you. We are probably the easiest race in the world to con and bully. Unless Singaporeans learn to think for themselves and question authority figures (even religion leaders), the same time will happen, over and over again.

Xtrocious said...

That's the power of these churches...

They offer the "hope" of salvation...

Whether or not they can deliver on their promise remains to be seen

But paying a million bucks to get salvation after death is probably a worthwhile insurance for those who can afford it versus spending eternity in hell...

I am still waiting for the instruction to rally around Kong Hee Fart Choy.

I can understand for a church to depend on donations and tithes to run its operations but to amass an amount and functions like a business corporation is preposterous.
They should go back to the basics of what Christ taught.
Most of the members are highly educated and well connected but their ability to discern matters is definitely lacking.
Are there so many gullible people here?
oh i forgot, there's always one born every minute.

An Aussie friend told me the other day that a Singapore Couple who also has a home in Australia tried to convert him by telling him the successful story of CHC pointing to their $300 million investment. My friend had a good laugh and told this Singaporean couple that in that case he should go into the Christianity Church business than staying in the building business.CHC has a presence in Perth and as far as I can see they are struggling. The Aussies are too smart for them. After being exploited by the Monks in the Catholic Churches, and frequent reports of misbehaviour by Christian Holy men, the Aussies are very very suspicious of these people. Even those who considered themselves Christians seldom attend Church at all. More in name only.
