Vincent Cheng @ Hong Lim ...

Finally, we get to hear him speak....thank you Jacob George for the recording.

The 1st part of his speech reminds me of how I used to think about the PAP - integrity, vision, competence. Many of us, once we get past the Straits Times and open our eyes to see reality, we begin to understand what the truth really is. Vincent Cheng who was accused of being a Marxist conspirator acting on the instructions of Tan Wah Piow tells us he never acted for Tan Wah Piow and never had political connections to Tan Wah Piow. He was detained for 3 years without trial on that accusation. The whole nation was told that was why he was detained. Singapore is a place where it takes so much courage to tell the truth....Vincent Cheng took a lot of risk to tell us what we have suspected to be the truth for a long time. 23 years is a long time but the ISA which was used to detain, torture and force a confession from Vincent Cheng still exists largely unchanged from the day he was arrested in Operation Spectrum.

It is time for Singapore to get rid of the ISA and replace it with an anti-terrorism act to reflect the real threats to our society today. The draconian ISA perpetuate a climate of fear and has resulted in unjust treatment of hundreds of Singaporeans like Vincent Cheng whose only intention was to better the lives of the downtrodden and exploited among us.

It seems like having intentions to "better the lives of the downtrodden and exploited among us" is a threat to the PAP government and will be detained by the ISA. Welcome to the neo-fascist state.

Guess how many of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights do PAP fail to uphold?

Ans: 29 of out 30!

Do not delude yourself that you are safe by virtue of not being a politician; None of the detainees were politicians! YOU could be next! So, stand on the side of justice! Vote for justice, and for your own future!

ISA frightens nobody with courage, righteousness and sacrifice.
Those who know how to make money from others without conscience are also not afraid, they are more pro than the ISA People. Nothing tangible to exchange for fortunes donated from believers and the gullibles.

Since few years back, the rising tides of voices of dissents have also rendered the ISA quite useless. It's effectiveness will diminishes if more people dare to prove that there are many many misdoings from the Leaders. It's a catch 22 poser for the Authority if more evidences of proof to show that our leaders have made livings very difficult for us are made known to more people as time goes.

There is a dire need to highlight the plights of the Masses as the livings of the poor and weak are made more difficult by a very wanton and selfish Leadership. It has to open its' eyes and ears to feel the curses and the prayers as well. MANY HAVE NO RECOURSE AND ARE INVOKING THEIR FAITHS TO SEEK SOLACE AND HELP.

Me just does not believe what i am seeing and hearing. AND EVEN MORE UNBELIEVEABLE IS THAT OUR LEADERS ARE NUMBED TO THE PLEAS AS THOUGH THEY ARE TOTALLY WITHOUT GOOD REASONS AND CAUSES.

DOES THE LEADERSHIP RULES WITH CONSCIENCE?

I never believe the ISD when they accused Vincent Cheng of harboring communist conspirary. The way the ISD handled the whole affairs was so clumsy and crude and made their lies so obvious.

Vincent's message is so loud and clear and full of courage. This is a man with unbeatable human spirit that will earn our true respect!

Very cool to see Vincent Cheng in the SDP uniform ;)

I read about the so-called Marxist plot to overthrow the Singapore government! Overthrow!

I laughed out loud when I first read the news. If a group wants to overthrow the government, it needs the help of the following

a) mass popular support

b) allies in the military and police

c) money to fund the revolt

It is clear that Vincent Cheng has none of the above.

On the other hand, I know of local politicians who have relatives serving in top echelons of our government, police and military. I know of political parties who recruit some of their key members from the military and GLCs.
And I know of a politician who confidently said that he would bring in the military in the event of a "freak election" result.

Pretty obvious who is in a much stronger position to overthrow the government if the need arises...

I recall watching the TV confession as a teenager. IMHO, it looked obvious that it was a forced confession.

The game has changed.
The rulers built this nation on the foundation of prosperity. The people survived so long as the wealth flowed to the masses which, enable them to stay in power.
But lately, they have been under pressure by opposition stirring the ground to reverse some of the progressive measures to keep this nation "prosperous".
They are relenting.
We will know whether they will lose ground, or the opposition had succeeded, in the next 6 months or so.

Once a goes, b and c have to be corrupted - in most scenario - it they cant reverse the slide and insist on holding onto power.
When corruption sets in, that's it,a new government?
Opposition can then pop champaign or ISA gets really busy?
Quite ugly.

"So now who is telling the truth? ISA said he IS a Marxist conspirator and from the horse's mouth he said he IS NOT???"

Well, he is telling the TRUTH. Do you truly believe he can get away with such lies in Singapore? Read the NYT transcript (excepts below).

Q: “Well, you don’t have a lot of dissidents in prison but you’re known for your libel suits which keeps a lot of people at bay.”

Mr Lee: “We are non-corrupt. We lead modest lives, so it’s difficult to malign us. What’s the easy way to get a leader down? He’s a hypocrite, he is corrupt, he pretends to be this when in fact he’s that. That’s what they’re trying to do to me. Well, prove it, if what you say is right, then I don’t deserve this reputation. Why must you say these things without foundation? I’m taking you to court, you’ve made these allegations, I’m open to your cross-examination.”

Q: “But that may produce what I was talking about, about a level of fear.”

Mr Lee: “No, you’re fearful of a libel suit? Then don’t issue these defamatory statements or make them where you have no basis. The Western correspondent, especially those who hop in and hop out got to find something to show that they are impartial, that they’re not just taken in by the Singapore growth story. They say we keep down the opposition, how? Libel suits. Absolute rubbish. We have opponents in Parliament who have attacked us on policy, no libel suits against them and even in Parliament they are privileged to make defamatory allegation and cannot be sued. But they don’t. They know it is not true.”

I was in my 20's during the confession of Vincent Cheng. Yesterday, I saw the movie, V for Vendetta and it all came together. Well done, PAP.

Unfortunately, Teo Soh Lung in her book - Beyond the blue gate - indicated that they spoke the truth, and denied the govt allegations. They were thrown back into ISA for 2 more years.
Reading her book reminded me of The Diary of Anne Frank.

after detaining Chia Thye Poh for 32 years, did the despotic regime get a confession from Chia or gather sufficient evidence ?

otherwise ST would have published it on front page and Chia would have been on prime time news.

from the comments of many ex detainees, it is obvious the ISA has been abused.

in fact, every state institution has been abused by the MIW !

By Dr. Albert Mohler
AlbertMohler.com

When a scandal breaks in the media, attention to previous scandals comes almost as a reflex. With accusations swirling around Atlanta’s Bishop Eddie Long, the media have turned back to Ted Haggard, who at the time of his own scandal was pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Springs, a large independent mega-church, and president of the National Association of Evangelicals.

Haggard resigned in 2006 after a male prostitute accused him of paying for sex and buying drugs. Confronted by the media, Haggard admitted to “sexual immorality” with the prostitute. Just last year he admitted also to having engaged in “sexual immorality” with a male volunteer at New Life Church when the man was 22 - echoing the accusations against Bishop Long. In recent months Ted Haggard has started a new church in Colorado Springs.

What makes all of this so instructive are comments made in the press by both Ted Haggard and his wife, Gayle. In light of the accusations against Long, Haggard told AOL News:

“Nobody’s guilty until the court says he’s guilty.”
Nobody’s guilty until the court says he’s guilty?

In a legal context, that might have some cogency, but a church cannot possibly settle for this as a principle of how to deal with accusations of sin. The church does not need the courts to define either sin or its remedy. Haggard’s statement is particularly troubling given his story.

Every state institution?
I think the worse was HDB upgrading. Due to escalation of public housing prices, PAP has now realised all citizens will not have enough for retirement, and thus we need the Ver 2.0 patch - lock up CPF in CPF life and make them work till they die.
Bye Bye retirement.

In Singapore, focus on earning a living. Or rather a good living. There are plenty of opportunities here to do that as long as one is enterprising, regardless of race, nationality, age or gender.

I believe majority of people are like that, which is why they are not too concerned or get into trouble with ISA, death penalty, rich poor gap, high cost of living, etc, etc.

After all, is there much you can do to change it even if you are passionately concerned about it?

Or even if a few more opposition MPs or NCMPs in Parliament?

Or rather do you realistically expect more than 28 (1/3 of all seats) elected opposition MPs in the next Parliament where they will have a decisive vote for passing of legislation? And provided of course all are united too!

"If what Vincent Cheng said is true, then he should speak the truth 20 years ago rather than wait until now."

Hmm, that sounds like an attempt to belittle and disparage his speech. Let's take a trip down memory lane: 20 years ago, that would be the year 1990. LKY had just pretended to step down and hand over power to GCT after introducing the GRC electoral con. The ISA was used just 3 years prior for Operation Spectrum to arrest innocent social workers one of whom was Vincent Cheng.

The Internet was in its infancy. The World Wide Web had yet to be invented. A top-of-the-line desktop PC cost me 10 thousand dollars, maximum RAM 640k, hard drive size 80 MEGAbytes at best, operating system: MSDOS. Needless to say, there was no broadband.

All media was firmly under tight PAP control. Speaker's Corner did not exist until September 2000. So tell me then, how would Vincent Cheng be able to 'speak the truth' as you put it, and who would hear his cry of pain?

Does that mean you will stop attacking PAP?

Bullocks. You have done it for years and will continue to tempt ISA because you know there is no truth in your accusations.

Otherwise, you think you still be around?

Hitler < PAP said...

The reason why ISA never managed to arrest so much is so "common sense" ... so many people protest, no place in jail to even accomodate so many.

Besides, if so many are arrested ... a lot of people will know and definitely that people will overthrow government, 100%.

Lastly, I want to invite all of you pro-government supporters or fake posters to post here and fight me because I'm 100% positive that you won't win because I know the truth by heart. Bring it

Today there is a report where number of US$ millionaires in Singapore is 81,000 out of 5 million people. Maybe Lucky is one of them.

Hong Kong has only 76,000 millionaires out of a population of 7 million.

This shows more people here are better in making money than those in Hong Kong.

No wonder Singapore is so peaceful and prosperous with not even street demonstrations, as compared to Hong Kong.

ISA will never be abolished. It's good for remaining in power perpetually. Why would the government give up ISA to make it easy for them to be thrown out of power? Just imagine the million dollar salaries they are going to lose. It's a no brainer really.
